At Access Dental, our Grande Prairie dentists offer dental sedation options to help patients more comfortable during long procedures, and to calm those who feel anxious.
What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to the techniques and medications we use to make patients more comfortable during dental procedures. Our dentists can help determine if a dental sedation option is right for you.
At Access Dental, we do everything we can to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. In addition to offering sedation options, we will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them, and provide calm reassurance.
Types of Sedation
We offer the following types of sedation at our Grande Prairie dental clinic.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is an inhaled gas that helps to calm patients, though they remain awake and able to communicate. It can also help lessen anxiety, increase the pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids prescribed by your dentist. The medication is taken orally before a dental appointment (either on the day or in the days before). It leaves you awake for the procedure, but produces a calming effect.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives are administered directly into the blood-stream through the vein for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. Our dental team will attach you to a monitor so that the dentist can keep track of vital signs during the procedure.
